Jack McNamara,

Advisory Board Member

 

Jack McNamara is retired but serves as the Chairman of the Independent Directors of Mirae Asset USA, a mutual fund family focused on emerging markets. After receiving his BA in History from Boston College in 1963, he served as an infantry officer in the US Marine Corps for 3 years. In 1968 Mr. McNamara received his MBA in Finance from the University of Detroit and in 1973 was awarded his CFA.

 

Throughout his 33-year career in the investment management industry, Mr. McNamara has worked as an analyst, portfolio manager, marketer, strategist, and business manager. He began his professional career as a research analyst in the Trust Department of the National Bank of Detroit. In 1980 Mr. McNamara joined the British merchant bank, Baring Brothers, and for the next 12 years focused on the emerging markets, with an emphasis on Asia. Later in his career he held executive level positions at Fidelity Investments and United Asset Management. Post retirement in 2001 he has served as a consultant for Hewlett Packard and Unisys, as a guest lecturer at the Boston University Graduate School of Business, and on the board of several Asian hedge funds. His voluntary service includes the boards of the Greater Boston YMCA, the Boston Urban Youth Foundation, and the Cohasset Library Foundation investment committee

 

A native New Yorker, Mr. McNamara has lived in the Boston area for 37 years. He and his wife Sue enjoy visiting their 4 children and 9 grandchildren, who are spread across the globe. His civic engagements include tutoring first graders in a reading skills program and delivering Meals on Wheels to housebound seniors. In an effort to keep his investment skills sharp, he continues to manage their personal investments in the international and the emerging markets.
